About the Professor

Karl F. Seidman is an educator, MIT Research Associate, Professor and Consultant at the LIFE Economics Lab, and a leading figure in the field of economic development. He served as a full-time faculty member for 25 years at MIT, teaching graduate courses in Development Finance, Economic Development Planning, and Commercial District Revitalization. With over 40 years of experience, he has worked across metropolitan areas, regions, rural communities, urban neighborhoods, and mid-sized cities.
Professor Seidman's MIT graduate course "Economic Development Finance" forms a direct foundation for executive program. Alexander Meeks studied under Seidman at MIT a fact that ensures deep continuity and coherence across the executive program. His 25-year teaching career at MIT established him as one of the institution's most influential voices on economic development, development finance, and urban revitalization.
Professor Seidman is the author of dozens of technical consultancy reports and three landmark books: Coming Home to New Orleans: Neighborhood Rebuilding after Katrina, Economic Development Finance, and Revitalizing Commerce for American Cities: A Practitioner's Guide to Urban Main Street Programs. He has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications on economic development, development finance, urban revitalization, green infrastructure, sustainable economic development, and land bank management.
